Itinerary

Once landing in Lhasa, the capital city of the mystical Tibet, you will be warmly greeted by your tour guide with a Hada (traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf), and then be escorted to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is leisure for you to acclimatize to the high altitude.

Spend a day exploring the holy monasteries in Lhasa. Meander through the Buddhist halls and chapels of Drepung Monastery, a grand temple that once housed over ten thousand monks, and get insight into Tibetan Buddhism. In the afternoon, observe the monk debates, lively with exaggerated body language, about Buddhist philosophy at Sera Monastery.

No tour to Tibet would be complete without a visit to the Potala Palace. Towering majestically over the red hill in downtown Lhasa, the magnificent Potala was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas and the religious and political center of the Tibetan region.

Later, change steps to the 1300-year-old Jokhang Temple, the epitome of Tibetan spirituality. Next to it is Barkhor Street, a vibrant enclave pulsating with Tibetan traditions. There, you will conclude the day at a local teahouse, a place to experience authentic Tibetan culture.

After breakfast, begin a road journey to Lake Namtso (around a 5-hour drive), a natural wonder with surreal beauty. On the way, be captivated by the verdant Damxung grasslands and the majestic Nyenchen Tanglha snow mountain in the distance.

On arrival, marvel at the breathtaking view of the sacred lake, resembling a blue gem set amidst the grasslands. Observe seagulls hovering above the sparkling sapphire lake and the colorful prayer flags fluttering along the shores. For more commanding views, you will ascend the scenic Tashido Island. Late afternoon, transfer to Damxung, a county near Namtso Lake for overnight.

Today, before returning to Lhasa, we will drive about 50km for a scenic detour to the Holy Elephant Gate on the northern shore of Namtso. This awe-inspiring natural stone arch, shaped like an elephant, stands quietly against the breathtaking backdrop of the snow-capped Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains and the ethereal expanse of Lake Namtso. From the recommended viewing platform, take a sweeping view of the lake’s shimmering sapphire water stretching toward the horizon. Then proceed with another 300km drive to Lhasa, with a stop on the way for a simple lunch to refresh and recharge.
