Whether you are an architecture fan or not, it’s recommended to have a brief tour of Daxing International Airport if time permits. The world’s present largest airport was designed by Zaha Mohammad Hadid, the “Queen of Curve” who gave architectural geometry a whole new expressive identity. Leaving out the striking throughput and the advanced artificial intelligence technology adopted on it, the building itself will give you an amazing visual feast.

Your exploration of Beijing will start from Tiananmen Square, the icon of modern China. From there, you can easily walk to the Forbidden City – the power seat of Ming and Qing Dynasties for almost 500 years. A tour to the Forbidden City will take you back to the feudal past, help you understand the preliminary philosophy of traditional Chinese architecture and the Chinese worship of imperial power in old days. Getting out of the palace, the panoramic view from the top of Jingshan hill will showcase to you the grandeur of this huge building complex.

Going northwest from the Forbidden City, about 50 kilometers, there is a treasured land with very good Fengshui – Chinese geomancy, with green mountains surrounding on three sides, a flat in-lot, and a river passing through on the other side. Most of the royal tombs of the Ming Dynasty are here.

Today, on the way to Yanqing, you will stop to visit Changling, the largest and best-preserved one of the 13 Ming Tombs, and the Sacred Road.

After arrival in Yanqing, have a leisure walk around the Wild Duck Lake to soak up the picturesque wetland views and observed various species of birds hovering over the lake or swimming in the water.

The ancient town of Yongning is not big and only with one main street lined with shops or ground stalls selling various necessities for the locals. Many of these goods look a bit odd and outdated, and quite hard to see in cities. In an inconspicuous alley, hides the biggest and oldest Catholic church in the suburb of Beijing. The church is not always open. If you are lucky enough to get into it, you will see some beautiful frescoes on its roof. It is a nice place to glance at the rustic life of north China.

From the old town, with about one hour’s drive to the east, you will reach the foot of the Jiuyanlou, the largest and highest-standard fortress on the Great Wall. To marvel at it and take in the splendid scenery surrounding it, you need to hike about one hour along the stone paths through the dense forest to get up. The descending path is much shorter but a little steeper.

The Longqing Gorge combines the comeliness of southern China and the majesty of northern China. Drifting on the rippling turquoise water while watching the green hills coming to you strewing at random, you may feel you are cruising in a strong colored oil painting. Every year, between January and February, you’ll have a chance to enjoy the fairytale Ice Festival here.

Today, after the tour to Longqing Gorge, a 2.5 hours’ drive will take you back to your hotel in Beijing.

The Temple of Heaven is a sacred place where intricate rituals were performed annually as the communication between the emperor of the heaven and the emperor on the earth. The building complex perfectly embodies the harmony between man and nature in traditional Chinese philosophy. This morning, you will visit the Temple of Heaven firstly, marveling at the stately buildings and joining the locals to do some morning exercise, such as playing Taichi or Chinese Kungfu or kicking shuttlecock.

In the afternoon, visit the Great Wall, Mutianyu section with the cable car up and down, to enjoy the magnificence of this human wonder and the splendor of mountains surrounding it.
